Nintendo has officially rolled out a free demo for Rhythm Heaven Groove, giving players a taste of the action before its full launch on July 2. You can grab the download right now via the eShop.

The trial includes one multiplayer minigame and an introductory single-player stage featuring four unique rhythm challenges plus a remix level. Here is what you can expect from the single-player portion:

Hoop Trundling: Guide a line of gloomy, spherical creatures as they hop through hoops.

Brolly Good Show: Help turnip-headed characters flutter their umbrella caps along a charming Parisian street.

Disc Dog: On a surreal extraterrestrial landscape, help a canine keep rhythm as it counts to seven before snagging a frisbee.

Feeding the Beast: Time your taps perfectly to help a quirky monster feast on flying tulip heads.

The included remix stage seamlessly weaves these four activities together into what the game aptly dubs a "wild jumble." As for the multiplayer component, you’ll dive into Rhythm Tweezers, a hilarious turn-based mode where players work in sync to pluck stray hairs from a bearded onion.

Having spent time with the Rhythm Heaven Groove demo, I can confirm it delivers the same addictive charm series veterans know and love. The tracks are undeniably catchy, the aesthetic—courtesy of the legendary Ko Takeuchi of WarioWare fame—is delightfully bizarre, and the beat-based puzzles are as clever as they are tricky, frequently subverting your expectations. Even this early stage of the game offers a satisfying level of challenge.

In a sense, Rhythm Heaven Groove represents a milestone for Nintendo. It marks the series' grand return after a decade-long hiatus and stands as the first entirely new entry in fourteen years. Fittingly, it also serves as a swan song for the original Switch hardware, acting as the final first-party title released for the console—a poetic echo of Rhythm Tengoku, which similarly closed the book on the Game Boy Advance era.
