The breakout hit of the latest Steam Next Fest was undoubtedly Windrose. The demo captivated the community, garnering over 351,000 wishlist additions during the event alone.
According to Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics, the title has now amassed a following of over 1.3 million Steam users. This surge has propelled Windrose to the 11th spot on the platform’s global rankings for most-anticipated games, a list currently led by Subnautica 2.
This overwhelming interest serves as a pointed lesson for Ubisoft. Their title, Skull and Bones, faced heavy criticism for its lack of terrestrial combat and manual boarding mechanics, relying instead on automated ship-to-ship sequences. Despite the French publisher’s earlier hints at expanding these features, meaningful updates have yet to materialize. In contrast, Windrose prioritizes immersive PvE encounters and high-stakes gameplay, delivering the depth that seafaring fans have been craving.
