The developers of Ghost of Yotei included not only combat systems but a variety of side activities. The game’s heroine can pet the local foxes — something that shouldn’t be imitated in real life.

Residents of Hokkaido, Japan, noticed this feature in Ghost of Yotei and issued a warning about the potential risk:

“Although a fox may look cute and approachable, visitors to Hokkaido are advised to keep a safe distance and refrain from touching them. The red fox can carry a parasite — the tapeworm Echinococcus — which can infect humans and cause echinococcosis; if left untreated, the condition can be fatal.”

Still, the game’s protagonist is safe — within the period portrayed in the game, that parasite was not present on Hokkaido.
