Testing of the game’s streamlined (lighter) version has begun.

Recently, the creators of Helldivers 2 revealed how they addressed the issue of the game’s bloated client. The new build will occupy significantly less disk space:

Our long-term objective has been to bring the PC file footprint in line with the console editions. We’re pleased to say that, with support from our partners at Nixxes, we reached that milestone far sooner than expected. By fully removing duplicated data, we’ve reduced the PC install size from approximately 154 GB to 23 GB — a saving of about 131 GB, or roughly 85%.

The developers noted that players running Helldivers 2 on HDDs may see slightly longer load times, though the impact is minimal:

Our tests show that, for a small portion of players still using HDD drives, mission load times increase by only a few seconds in worst-case scenarios. The update is already available in the beta build!

A public beta is currently running (you can opt in via the game’s Steam properties). Once testing is complete, the update for Helldivers 2 will be released to all players.
