Another PC game launcher triggered a backlash, prompting developers to reverse course.
On June 22, Owlcat Games updated Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader to include a mandatory launcher. The studio claimed the software would serve as a hub for news and ensure quick access to the game. They emphasized that the launcher would not interfere with mods and included an option to bypass it entirely.
Players rejected the addition. Faced with immediate negative feedback, Owlcat Games removed the launcher less than 24 hours after the update went live.
Community members thanked the studio for listening, and the decision earned positive responses. Even so, players remain cautious. One user, Zampolit, suggested the company should hold the individual responsible for the PR fallout accountable.
