Regardless of how exhausted we might feel by relentless franchising and heavy-handed corporate marketing, there remains an undeniable allure to the summer movie season. Even when we suspect a fourteenth installment might be pushing our patience, that familiar tug of curiosity persists—we simply have to know if this is the time they finally get it right. Perhaps it’s the summer heat getting to us, or maybe we’re just suckers for a well-cut trailer. Whatever the reason, we love to devour every piece of news leading up to a massive release. Surely, I’m not the only one?

This summer, however, feels like a refreshing detour from the norm. We are looking at a landscape with a significantly smaller Marvel footprint, and with the major Star Wars beats already behind us, there is finally breathing room for visionary directors to showcase their craft on a grand scale. For all the skeptics out there: take note—summer 2026 is shaping up to be genuinely exciting.

For the true cinephiles who track every release-date shift and festival rumor, your calendar is likely already fully booked. But keeping track of the hype is one thing; proving your mastery is another. We’ve put together a quiz to separate the casual moviegoer from the ultimate summer hype-expert. Think you’re ready for the season? Let’s put that knowledge to the test.
