Through November 13, you can claim the stealth-tinged Wild West shooter “12 is Better Than 6” on Steam for free. The game fuses mechanics reminiscent of Hotline Miami with the story of a Mexican fugitive making his way through Texas and eliminating anyone who stands in his path.
Developed by Ink Stains Games — the studio also behind the turn-based RPG Stoneshard — the title has racked up 90% positive reviews on Steam.
“12 is Better Than 6” distinguishes itself not only by its visual aesthetic but by its gameplay mechanics. The shooter aims with the mouse, yet you must manually cock the hammer before firing, manage a limited ammunition supply, and reload weapons yourself. Similar constraints apply to the bow and the double-barrel shotgun. The variety of tactics available for each level gives players a lot of flexibility in how they approach the game.
Interestingly, the game almost didn’t make it: the Kickstarter campaign closed a mere £13 above its £15,000 minimum target.
