Olivia Rodrigo recently experienced a surreal “full circle” moment that sounds like something straight out of an internet archive. The pop powerhouse shared how she manifested a real-life encounter with Harry Styles, years after she spent her childhood crafting stories about him online.

In a recent episode of the Music Makes Us podcast, the “Vampire” singer opened up about her pre-fame days. Like many Gen Z fans who grew up during the height of boy band mania, Rodrigo admitted to being a dedicated writer of One Direction fan fiction during her elementary school years.

Manifesting a Pop Star Reality

The boundary between fiction and reality blurred significantly once Rodrigo reached global stardom. She recounted a specific afternoon spent with the “As It Was” singer that felt like a page taken from her own childhood journals. “A few years later, I actually spent time with Harry Styles. We grabbed tea and went for a walk,” Rodrigo explained, laughing at the coincidence. “When I got home, I was in total disbelief. I realized I had literally written that exact scenario into a story as a kid, and then I actually lived it.”

Describing Styles as “so sweet,” Rodrigo joked that her 10-year-old self would have never believed that one day she would be crossing paths with her idol as a peer.

A Support System of Musical Icons

Since her explosive debut in 2021 with “Drivers License,” Rodrigo has been embraced by several of the artists she once admired from afar. Beyond her tea date with Styles, she noted the mentorship and support she has received from icons like Lorde and Jack White. Her connection to White is particularly deep; before her music career took off, she famously curated a White Stripes fan account on Instagram.

While Rodrigo continues to ride the wave of her chart-topping 2023 album Guts, Styles has been enjoying a period of relative privacy following his Grammy-winning Harry’s House era. However, the British star has remained active in the public eye through personal milestones, including participating in the Tokyo and Berlin marathons and appearing in social media updates alongside close friends like Zoë Kravitz.
