Olivia Rodrigo on a Potential Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter

Five years ago, the prospect of Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter joining forces in the studio seemed like an impossibility. Yet, in the ever-shifting landscape of pop music, one learns never to say never.

During a candid conversation for her latest Dazed cover feature, Rodrigo addressed the possibility of collaborating with her fellow Gen-Z superstar. Far from dismissing the idea, she offered a lighthearted response: “Oh, gosh. I mean, I’m open… I’m open to all types of collaboration.”

Reflecting on her creative inspirations, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alumna highlighted a few dream collaborators. “I’ve been listening to a lot of PJ Harvey lately, and Fiona Apple,” she shared. “Their work carries such a raw, unfiltered, and truly special quality. I would love the chance to connect with them.”

The conversation inevitably turned to the public narrative surrounding her and Carpenter. Years ago, the media heavily scrutinized their relationship following the release of Rodrigo’s debut smash, “Drivers License,” which touched on themes of heartbreak and a “blonde girl.” This sparked a flurry of response tracks, including Carpenter’s “Skin” and “Because I Liked a Boy.”

However, any perceived tension has long since evaporated. Speaking to British Vogue earlier this spring, Rodrigo offered nothing but praise for her peer: “I think she’s great. I’m so happy for all of her success. I love the album she put out… people often look for drama where there is none. It’s all love. We’ve spoken many times.”

Rodrigo also reaffirmed her admiration for Lorde, an artist she has frequently cited as a major influence. “She is incredible,” Rodrigo added. “Pure Heroine was a definitive record that shaped how I approach songwriting, and I’m a big fan of her latest project.”
