“A remarkably talented young woman stepped up on stage with simply a guitar and sang ‘White Horse,’ and it completely blew me away,” Collins shared. “Beyond the exceptional songwriting and the deep emotional resonance of the lyrics, her vocal delivery was breathtaking. It possessed such a pure, captivating simplicity—just her and an acoustic guitar.”

Collins admitted that the track has held a special place in his heart ever since. Reflecting on her massive cultural footprint, he added, “I am genuinely thrilled that she is the biggest phenomenon on the planet right now, because her success feels entirely earned. While it is often easy for critics to target those who achieve extraordinary heights, I truly believe her remarkable success is fully justified.”

Elsewhere in the broadcast, the iconic drummer and singer-songwriter discussed the spontaneous origins of his defining solo anthem, “In the Air Tonight.” He revealed that roughly 80% of the track was completely improvised. Explaining that the song’s signature atmospheric textures were crafted using a Prophet-5 synthesizer, Collins noted that he never overworked the track, attributing its creation to a fortunate alignment of serendipity and inspiration rather than meticulous engineering.

These reflections coincide with a monumental milestone for Collins, who is slated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2026, following his previous induction alongside his Genesis bandmates 16 years prior.
