No, AOC’s new monitor cannot carry out high-res magic tips

Several sites have reported AOC’s new AGON AG251FG gaming monitor permits the consumer to make the selection between 1080p gaming with a lightning-quick 240Hz refresh fee and 1440p on the still-pretty-damn-quick 144Hz. The concept being that it will give customers the choice of gunning for a sooner refresh fee in intense racing or FPS video games earlier than stress-free in entrance of the attractive vistas of The Witcher three at a a lot increased decision.

Sorry to be the bearer of unhealthy information, however this isn’t the case.

We checked in with AOC and so they’ve confirmed the monitor merely has a local decision of 1080p and runs at 240Hz – nonetheless a neat trick should you ask us – however doesn’t change at your behest to an alternate high-res setting. The misreporting is a results of an error on AOC’s web site that displayed incorrect specs which didn’t jive with the 1080p at 240Hz determine given within the press launch for the monitor.

The new displays will although make use of a recent kind of TN panel from AU Optronics. We’ve had issues with TN panels before due to their weak colors and washed-out photographs, however AOC declare the newer design will function far more correct color illustration and improved readability. We’ll depart our pitchforks within the cabinet till we get our palms on one. The 240Hz AOC monitor is anticipated to be out within the UK in August this 12 months, with an MSRP of £519, so we’ll know for certain then.

The ethical of the story is to not imagine all the things you learn on the web, folks. Except possibly from us.
