Nintendo’s Nightmare Approaching? Chinese Pokémon and Animal Crossing Rivals Coming in 2026
This year, Nintendo is set to face a massive influx of competitors aiming to disrupt market segments long dominated by the Japanese gaming giant.
Chinese developers are aggressively challenging Nintendo’s supremacy. By 2026, players can look forward to titles such as Honkai: Nexus Anima—a direct rival to Pokémon—and Petit Planet, an Animal Crossing-style experience from the creators of Genshin Impact. Both projects are slated to launch as free-to-play titles.
Another game poised to make waves in the industry is Aniimo. The Chinese studio Pawprint has announced a second phase of beta testing, scheduled to begin on January 23. To participate, players should visit the official Aniimo website and sign up under the “Join Closed Beta” section.
Aniimo promises a multiplayer experience reminiscent of Pokémon, where players can explore a vibrant world together. With high-quality visuals and a free-to-play distribution model, the game is confirmed for release on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC via Steam.
