A significant downturn in sales has been recorded across all major global markets.

According to a recent report from The Game Business, Nintendo Switch 2 sales in the United States during the November-December 2025 period were 35% lower than those of the original Switch during its debut holiday season in 2017. The decline was even more pronounced in France, where figures dropped by 30% compared to 2017. The United Kingdom also saw a negative trend, with the new console trailing the first Switch’s performance by 16%.

Positive momentum is only visible through a broader lens: when aggregating sales across the entirety of Europe, the Switch 2 actually outperformed its predecessor by 7%. Furthermore, by the end of 2025, the new hardware managed to narrow the gap in the UK, eventually surpassing 2017’s annual figures by 6%.

The situation in Japan presents a mixed bag: while the Switch 2 finished the year 11% ahead of its predecessor’s launch year, the critical December holiday sales still fell slightly short of the benchmarks set by the original Switch in 2017.
