It’s been several months since the Switch 2 launched, and the console has already exceeded 10 million units sold. However, owners should not expect a steady stream of new Nintendo exclusives just yet.
At the latest investor meeting, company president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that developing games for the new hardware has proven more demanding than it was for the original Switch. Consequently, project timelines have stretched, and releases will arrive less frequently than before.
Furukawa pointed out that production costs have risen and development schedules have lengthened, which prevents the company from releasing new titles at its former pace. He acknowledged that console owners don’t want their systems idle and proposed a temporary solution.
The Nintendo chief advised players to explore the original Switch’s library, since the new console supports backward compatibility. To assist with selection, the company has added a search tool on its website that highlights older games confirmed to run smoothly on Switch 2.
