With the debut of Grand Theft Auto 6—arguably the most fiercely awaited title of the decade—just weeks away, players are preparing to dive into Rockstar’s expansive open world on November 19. That is, assuming they play on a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. True to form, the studio has left personal computer users waiting indefinitely, raising the perennial question: what about the Nintendo Switch 2? While optimists hoped the upcoming hardware would finally sport the horsepower required to run Grand Theft Auto’s latest masterpiece, that possibility remains uncertain.

Recently, Nintendo of America President Devon Pritchard sat down with Variety to evaluate the potential of the next-generation console, noting that “we’re just at the beginning of seeing what the Nintendo Switch 2 can do.” Pritchard expressed optimism that enhanced graphical capabilities will attract an influx of major third-party AAA software, helping redefine the platform beyond its traditional family-friendly image by offering a far broader spectrum of gaming experiences.

A prime example of this strategy is the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 later this year, which marks the blockbuster franchise’s return to a Nintendo platform after a decade-long absence. However, Pritchard refrained from offering any guarantees regarding a prospective Grand Theft Auto 6 port, choosing instead to emphasize that such decisions ultimately lie with Take-Two and Rockstar.

This year also marks the monumental 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, an emerald milestone that Nintendo intends to honor elaborately. Alongside a live-action feature film slated for April 30, 2027, the company is preparing a comprehensive remake of Ocarina of Time for later this year, complemented by a specially curated, highly exclusive concert tour unveiled during a dedicated Nintendo Direct presentation.

Pritchard noted that these multi-faceted celebrations are designed to captivate both fresh audiences and long-time devotees alike. Emphasizing the company’s meticulous approach to its crown jewels, she added that future initiatives surrounding Zelda and other core franchises will continue to be executed with deliberate care and consideration.

Nov. 19 isn’t that far off now
