In a revealing new podcast sit-down, Nicki Minaj explores the motivations behind her recent pivot toward conservative circles. The rap icon clarified that her public advocacy for Donald Trump isn’t rooted solely in legislative policy, but rather in a deep-seated empathy for how the former president has been treated by the media and the public.

In preview segments shared to social media ahead of her full interview with podcaster Katie Miller, Minaj addressed why she feels a sudden pull toward the political arena. When questioned if specific stances on immigration or religious liberty drew her in, Minaj noted that while “religious freedom” is a core value, her true motivation was more personal.

“To be honest, seeing the way President Trump was treated—over and over—was something I simply couldn’t ignore,” Minaj explained.

She went on to draw parallels between her own career and Trump’s political journey, suggesting they both faced similar adversity. “I felt that the bullying, the coordinated smear campaigns, and the constant misinformation were things I’ve dealt with for a long time. Watching it happen to someone else in real-time made me feel like he didn’t deserve that treatment.”

Minaj also touched upon the timeline of her political awakening, noting that her interest began to pique during the previous presidential cycle. She recalled texting a contact during the campaign to express her dismay at certain events, though she declined to specify which moments triggered her reaction. “Sometimes, people can antagonize you so much that they inadvertently push you right into your next calling,” she added.

The interview follows a string of high-profile interactions between the artist and the Trump camp. Recently, Minaj joined the POTUS at the Trump Accounts Summit, where she declared herself his “No. 1 fan.” She also made headlines by revealing her “Trump Gold Card”—an exclusive membership associated with high-level contributions that allegedly offers specific benefits, potentially including expedited citizenship pathways for the Trinidadian-born star.

The burgeoning alliance has already become a target for late-night comedy and award show monologues. At the most recent Grammy Awards, host Trevor Noah poked fun at their relationship, leading to a series of sharp rebuttals from Minaj on X (formerly Twitter). Trump echoed her frustrations on Truth Social, dismissing the awards ceremony as “virtually unwatchable” and “garbage.”

The full discussion between Minaj and Miller is set to provide more insight into the rapper’s future plans within the political sphere and her evolving relationship with the “America First” movement.
