White Wolf is developing a fresh Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop RPG, and in a bold move, they have pledged to prioritize human-crafted artistry over the current trend of AI-generated imagery.
During the “Darkness Emergent 2026” panel on May 22, creative director Jess Lanzillo confirmed that a new project set in the World of Darkness is currently in active development. While specific details remain under wraps for now, the studio plans to pull back the curtain during “The Future of White Wolf” presentation at Gen Con 2026. Attendees will also have the opportunity to see the game in action during a live Actual Play demonstration at the event.
In their official announcement, the team noted that the design philosophy centers on player agency, deep collaboration, and intimate, personal narratives. The goal is to more tightly integrate the rich lore of Vampire: The Masquerade with the mechanical experience of the tabletop game.
Significantly, White Wolf has stated that the project is “built around illustration” with an unwavering commitment to human-created work. This stance serves as a quiet rebuke to the wider tabletop gaming industry, which has faced mounting backlash due to instances of art theft and the implementation of AI tools in high-profile card and board games, most notably within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
From the discovery of AI-generated marketing assets in 2024 to unauthorized use of professional artwork in promotional materials, the tabletop scene has been fraught with controversy. By taking a clear stand for human artistry before the game’s launch, White Wolf is signaling a return to traditional values. This move may also serve as a strategic effort to rebuild community trust following the lukewarm reception of recent titles, such as Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.
Further details regarding this upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade title will be revealed at Gen Con 2026, held in Indianapolis from July 3 to August 2.
