In August 2026, Viz Media and Shueisha announced that the Naruto franchise would host a panel at New York Comic Con 2026 regarding a new project. Fans immediately connected the news to the long-delayed anime project first announced in 2023.

On September 29, two official Naruto accounts confirmed on X that the New York Comic Con appearance will focus on the new anime. The new Naruto anime will finally share some news at New York Comic Con 2026

The Naruto anime remake was originally revealed during the series’ 20th anniversary celebration. The initial plan featured four special episodes produced with modern animation techniques, accompanied by a 10-minute trailer that updated iconic scenes from the original show.

The four episodes were scheduled to debut in September 2023, but the production team announced a delay in August 2023 to raise the quality of the episodes. Some viewers speculated that the positive reaction to the trailer prompted creators to expand the release into a full remake. Meanwhile, animation studio Pierrot remained occupied with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, which may have delayed the Naruto project until the conclusion of Bleach on October 26.

After more than three years of waiting, followers of the franchise will finally learn the scope of the upcoming remake. Given the enduring popularity of Naruto, the project is positioned to draw significant viewership regardless of whether it consists of four special episodes or a full production.
