New Life for The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II — Modders Expand the Game with Dozens of Maps and New Features
A new release of Edain — one of the largest mods for The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II — is out now, introducing twenty new maps.
Real-time strategy remains vibrant thanks to its dedicated fanbase. The latest Edain 4.8.3 update brings a number of notable changes.
The mod adds twenty new maps: twelve are revamped and improved fan-made projects tailored for two-, four- and six-player games; seven focus on a new building type — “half-castles” — which was introduced in version 4.8.2; and one map is classified as a Fortress. The AI can now recruit Ents. Map and faction balance has been refined, and numerous technical issues have been resolved.
Edain began as a mod aimed at bringing the game closer to the world depicted in the books and films. The developers introduced new heroes and abilities, split factions into distinct armies, added fresh unit types, expanded construction mechanics, and enabled heroes to bear one of the Rings. Over time the mod has grown substantially, adding new maps, a Hobbit-inspired campaign, and an expanded War of the Ring mode.
