New Dance Music Friday: Featuring Of the Trees, DJ Minx, and More

In the latest pulse of the electronic scene, dance music continues to shatter milestones and redefine platform trends. Avicii’s seminal country-EDM fusion, “Wake Me Up,” has officially joined an elite circle of only 51 tracks to surpass three billion views on YouTube. Meanwhile, Diplo has piqued curiosity by discussing his collaboration with K-pop titans BTS on their upcoming project, Arirang. Simultaneously, SoundCloud’s inaugural Music Intelligence Report identifies electronic music as the platform’s primary engine of growth.

According to data highlighted by Billboard, the genre’s footprint is expanding rapidly: while electronic music accounted for roughly one in four uploads in 2020, that figure is projected to exceed one in three by 2025. Last year alone, uploads tagged with “#DJSET” saw a nearly 40% year-over-year spike. This momentum has established electronic music as the fastest-climbing genre in the U.S. for the third consecutive year, with dubstep leading the charge thanks to innovative producers like Levity and Tape B.

On the industry front, Femme House has revealed the return of the Femmy Awards next month in Miami. This second annual celebration will honor trailblazers including Anja Schneider, Ultra Naté, Tokimonsta, and John Summit. However, the week hasn’t been without friction. Deadmau5 was forced to issue a clarifying statement following an unauthorized deepfake video that falsely depicted him endorsing another artist’s work. Additionally, heavyweights Subtronics and John Summit have publicly called for the resignation of Wasserman CEO Casey Wasserman, following the surfacing of documents detailing his past associations with Ghislaine Maxwell.

Shifting focus back to the soundscape, here are the most essential new releases dominating the dancefloor this week.

Of the Trees, Moonglade Park

Colorado’s Tyler Coombs, better known as Of the Trees, has delivered one of the year’s most sophisticated electronic offerings with his new LP, Moonglade Park. This ten-track odyssey is a masterclass in auditory world-building, seamlessly weaving textured IDM with rhythmic hip-hop and the heavy-hitting bass that has made him a staple of the live circuit. Conceived as a sonic exploration of a fictional national park, the album features a curated list of collaborators including Earthgang, Player Dave, and Elohim.

“This project represents the apex of my creative evolution,” Coombs explains. “It’s the first release that feels truly complete, realized with the scale and resources I’ve always envisioned. I assembled an ‘A-Team’ to bring this world to life, which is a testament to the community I’ve been part of for so long. It truly takes a village to manifest a vision of this magnitude.”

DJ Minx, Energy

Detroit techno royalty DJ Minx continues her streak of impeccable releases with the Energy EP. Released via Rekids LTD, the project features a titular track that defines “cool” and the atmospheric, Twin Peaks-inspired anthem “Get Up.” The EP arrives just as the Motor City legend prepares for a high-profile performance at New York’s Sound Room tomorrow evening.

Devault, “Zero”

California producer Devault further cements his reputation as a rising force with “Zero.” Striking a perfect equilibrium between the syncopated rhythms of UK Garage and the melodic sensibilities of electro-pop, the track feels like a quintessential festival closer. It captures that rare, euphoric sense of finality found on the dancefloor at the end of a marathon night. “Zero” is currently available via Insomniac Records.

Ahadadream with Skrillex & Raf Saperra, “Bass Dhol”

U.K. visionary Ahadadream reunites with Skrillex and British-Pakistani rapper Raf Saperra for the percussive powerhouse “Bass Dhol.” The collaboration originated in early 2023 during a session in Miami. “I played Sonny some of Raf Saperra’s work; he immediately connected with the energy,” Ahadadream recalls. After becoming a staple in their live sets as a “secret weapon,” the polished final version has officially landed via Dialled In/Island Records.

Max Styler feat. Ad-Apt, “One More”

Max Styler, currently one of tech-house’s most sought-after names, returns with another infectious club weapon, “One More.” The track is elevated by the gritty delivery of Manchester MC Ad-Apt, whose lyrics—declaring a refusal to leave the rave—perfectly mirror the song’s relentless energy. This anthem is out now on Insomniac Records.
