The fifth season will mark the conclusion of Geralt of Rivia’s journey on Netflix.
Streaming giant Netflix has unveiled its 2026 release roadmap, which officially includes the fifth season of “The Witcher.” Despite a polarized reception and vocal criticism from fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s literary works and CD Projekt Red’s iconic games, the platform is determined to see the story through to its natural resolution.
As part of the update, Netflix also shared the official logline for the concluding chapter. The description reads:
“The time of the end approaches: malevolent forces are gathering across the Continent, weaving treacherous schemes against Ciri. Even if Geralt and Yennefer succeed in protecting their daughter and realizing their final wish—to be reunited as a family—they must face trials and adversaries unlike any they have ever encountered before.”
Principal photography for the fifth season was completed by the autumn of 2025, and the project is currently in post-production. The final arc was brought to life by a team of directors with varied expertise. Jeremy Webb, whose credits include “The Last of Us” and the fourth season of “The Witcher,” handled the first, seventh, and eighth episodes. Christopher Clark Cowan—an action specialist from “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “The Acolyte”—directed episodes three and four, making his debut as a primary director this season. Episodes five and six were helmed by Alex Garcia Lopez, who returns to the series after his work on the first season.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich once again spearheaded the narrative direction. For the final chapter, she collaborated with an extensive writing room featuring Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Tera Vale Ragan, Troy Dangerfield, Clare Higgins, Rae Benjamin, Matthew D’Ambrosio, Tania Lotia, and Mike Ostrowski.
While a precise premiere date has yet to be announced, Netflix’s upcoming release schedule lists the title as “coming soon,” without specifying a month or quarter. This final season will bring the collective journey of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri to a close, ending the multi-year saga of Netflix’s “The Witcher.”
