The animated series was among the streamer’s projects that failed to meet expected viewership benchmarks.

Netflix has opted not to renew Zack Snyder and Jay Oliva’s animated series Twilights of the Gods, even though the first season ended on a plot turn that strongly implied a continuation. According to What’s On Netflix, the show fell short of the global engagement metrics the platform had been aiming for.

Produced by Stone Quarry Animation and Xilam Animation, the series premiered in September 2024 and received moderately favorable reviews — 76% from critics and 75% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, its strong visuals and large-scale production weren’t enough to draw the audience numbers Netflix required.

The opening chapter followed mortal King Leif and the warrior Sigrid, whose romance devolved into a bloody tragedy. The season finale ended on a significant cliffhanger that suggested further storylines, but a continuation now appears unlikely.

Twilights of the Gods was part of a broader content review: alongside it, Netflix also shelved the second season of the Good Times reboot and the animated series Exploding Kittens.
