Mrs. GREEN APPLE’s Two-Day ‘CEREMONY’ Show: A Collaborative Celebration of Music – Review

Mrs. GREEN APPLE recently transformed the K Arena Yokohama in Kanagawa, Japan, into a vibrant hub of artistic expression with their two-day "CEREMONY" event held on June 10 and 11. This meticulously curated experience harmonized fashion, music, and culture, drawing a sold-out audience and a roster of VIP guests who gathered to celebrate the unifying power of live performance.

Band members Motoki Ohmori, Hiloto Wakai, and Ryoka Fujisawa embraced the "Hero’s Journey" as their aesthetic centerpiece. Drawing inspiration from The Wizard of Oz on the first night and the timeless Japanese folktale Momotaro on the second, their costumes mirrored the thematic depth of the event. Ohmori set the tone early, describing the gathering not as a standard concert or competition, but as a deliberate space for diverse artistic worlds to intersect and appreciate one another’s creative contributions.

The stage was graced by a stellar lineup. s**t kingz debuted their latest track, "slow burn," while asmi offered a poignant rendition of "Tokyo Tower." The energy soared as Cho Tokimeki Sendenbu brought a delightful, high-spirited performance to the stage, interacting playfully with the MGA members. ORANGE RANGE kept the momentum at a fever pitch, treating the crowd to classic summer anthems that had the entire arena dancing in unison.

A true highlight arrived with AI’s emotive performance. Her soulful delivery of "Happiness," accompanied by a captivated crowd acting as an impromptu choir, left a lasting impression on both the audience and the band. TOMORROW X TOGETHER further elevated the energy with a dynamic set, including a memorable live collaboration on "Force," a track originally composed by Ohmori.

The event also attracted notable figures from the Japanese sports world, including table tennis star Tomokazu Harimoto and swimmer Yui Ohashi, who underscored how music serves as a vital source of motivation for athletes. The second day offered its own magic, featuring a stunning a cappella opening by Mone Kamishiraishi and high-voltage sets from Necry Talkie and MAXIMUM THE HORMONE. The latter’s boisterous, genre-defying performance injected a raw, powerful edge into the proceedings, perfectly contrasting the night's more melodic moments.

As the curtains drew to a close, emcee Ayami Nakajo reflected on the weekend’s significance, likening the experience to a grand orchestra that soundtracked a unique, shared moment in time. Mrs. GREEN APPLE’s own finale served as a testament to the emotional labor behind their artistry. Ohmori spoke candidly about the balance of doubt and self-belief required to create, ultimately affirming that music remains the most profound endeavor he knows. With a promise to return next year, the trio bid farewell, leaving the audience with the memory of a truly bespoke cultural experience.
