As summer draws to a close, MrBeast—better known as Jimmy Donaldson—is set to join an eclectic roster of authors that includes names like Viola Davis, Dolly Parton, and Bill Clinton. Donaldson has teamed up with prolific thriller powerhouse James Patterson for his debut literary project. Much like MrBeast himself, Patterson is famous for leveraging a vast network of collaborators to execute large-scale, high-profit endeavors.
The Most Dangerous Games, which hits shelves on September 1, is being marketed by HarperCollins as the literary event of the year. The novel reimagines MrBeast’s signature stunt-filled YouTube universe as a bleak, dystopian landscape. Here is the official synopsis:

Given the reports surrounding the production of Beast Games and the wave of litigation the creator has faced over the last few years, this fictionalized crossover feels eerily reminiscent of reality. It reads like a modern-day iteration of The Running Man or The Hunger Games.
Donaldson is confident the book will resonate, promising that it won’t fall into the traps of traditional “boring” literature. During the cover reveal, he noted: “I grew up thinking reading was dull. In my twenties, I realized I just hadn’t found the right material. Working with James—a master storyteller—gave me the chance to craft the kind of book I would have been obsessed with as a child. My goal was to reignite a passion for reading among a younger generation. I’m incredibly proud of the result and can’t wait for fans to experience it.”
Patterson, who famously churns out dozens of books annually, seems like a fitting partner for the endlessly ambitious Donaldson. As detailed in a recent GQ feature, Patterson typically drafts extensive, 70-page structural outlines before bringing in co-authors to flesh out the prose, while he maintains tight editorial control over pacing and tone.
Whether the partnership was truly collaborative or heavily steered by Patterson’s established system remains unclear, though Donaldson certainly provided the creative DNA for the project.
