Mariah Carey Mourns the End of the Holiday Season: ‘Christmas Is Over’

If you find yourself feeling a bit somber as the tinsel comes down, you aren’t alone. Mariah Carey, the undisputed Queen of Christmas, is likely taking the season’s end even harder than you are.

In a lighthearted video shared on Saturday, January 3, the legendary vocalist is seen watching in mock despair as her staff begins the daunting task of dismantling one of her elaborate Christmas trees. As an ornament is plucked from its branch, a distraught Carey cries out, “No! No!” while gesturing frantically to halt the deconstruction of her winter wonderland.

The comedic clip was appropriately underscored by her track “In Your Feelings.” She added a relatable caption for holiday enthusiasts everywhere: “When they say ‘Christmas is over.’”

While saying goodbye to the festivities is a perennial struggle for Carey, the 2025 holiday season was a particularly triumphant chapter in her career. In December, she reclaimed her crown for the longest-running No. 1 hit in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. Her holiday masterpiece, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” secured its 20th week at the summit of the charts.

“Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1,” she shared with her followers at the time. “I’m so grateful.”

The song would go on to extend its lead even further. December also marked a historic personal milestone for the “Songbird Supreme,” as she officially surpassed 100 cumulative weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 across her storied career.

Throughout the season, Carey remained a fixture on stage with her “Christmastime In Las Vegas” residency. The residency drew fans from across the globe, including fellow superstar Rihanna. After visiting Carey backstage, Rihanna remarked that seeing the holiday show has officially become a “tradition” for her.

Fans—affectionately known as the Lambs—have plenty to look forward to in the coming months. Carey recently announced that she will be headlining the opening ceremony for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. In her announcement video, she even showcased her linguistic range, exclaiming, “Ci vediamo a Milano!”
