Nicki Minaj is facing backlash for calling New York Governor Kathy Hochul “evil” during a rant posted on X on Wednesday night, Oct. 28.

The rapper weighed in on her home state’s upcoming gubernatorial race by writing that Kathy Hochul is an evil woman and advising that the Democratic Party should forfeit her seat because she will cause significant consequences for them even if she wins.

Minaj added that Hochul faces a downward spiral, will not escape God’s wrath, and failed to denounce evil when given the chance.

The hip-hop star, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago and grew up in Queens, New York starting at age 5, posted an all-caps response to a video of Hochul’s controversial 2024 remark about Black children in the Bronx not knowing what a computer is. Hochul apologized for the remark that same day, stating that she misspoke and regretted it.

Minaj wrote regarding the two-year-old incident asking how much more people need to see and hear, questioning how Black people and Christians can vote for her, and stating that Hochul stays silent on harm against the innocent.

Minaj also reposted a video of Hochul speaking to Black congregants at True Bethel Baptist Church in 2025 regarding an inflation rebate initiative, where the governor joked about buying food for kids instead of stopping by the liquor store while noting that she sometimes has to stop by there herself.

The hitmaker wrote that Hochul keeps horrible company and laughs at demonic actions by her friends behind the scenes, prompting a plea to God for help. The church’s bishop defended the remarks at the time as being within the context of his sermon.

The posts coincide with Minaj assisting Donald Trump in rallying for Republican candidates during this year’s midterm elections. Along with urging followers to vote for Bruce Blakeman in his race against Hochul, she recently appeared at the president’s rally in Michigan, where Trump invited her to stand for the crowd.

When asked about Minaj’s comments at a campaign stop, Hochul suggested that the rapper should stop attending Trump rallies because they are poisoning her mind.

Minaj has faced criticism over the past year for aligning with Trump, and her new remarks targeting the Democratic governor drew further disapproval. The Breakfast Club addressed the situation on its Thursday, Oct. 29 episode, during which Charlamagne tha God stated that Minaj’s viewpoints lack moral consistency.

Charlamagne stated that people can hold any political belief they choose, but must hold everyone to the same moral standard, questioning whether Minaj applies the same moral standards to Trump as she does to Hochul given Trump’s controversies.
