For nearly four decades, Mariah Carey’s illustrious career has been guided by three unwavering principles: to foster love, facilitate healing, and ignite inspiration.
“I have always endeavored to weave meaningful narratives into my music, specifically through anthems like ‘Hero’ and ‘Make It Happen,’” the 56-year-old icon shared during a brief hiatus from her holiday residency at Las Vegas’ Park MGM. “There is something profoundly gratifying about being able to offer that kind of support. My upbringing was far from affluent, and when you start with very little, the opportunity to give back carries a much deeper resonance.”
Carey’s lifelong devotion to philanthropy and her monumental artistic achievements will take center stage on January 30, when the five-time Grammy winner is officially honored as the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year. In receiving this accolade, she joins a prestigious circle of legendary honorees, including Joni Mitchell, Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Dolly Parton, and the Grateful Dead.
“Mariah Carey’s legacy transcends her extraordinary vocal talent,” noted Theresa Wolters, Executive Director of MusiCares. “She has consistently leveraged her global influence to provide substantive aid to communities in need—whether through disaster relief, empowering the next generation, or establishing programs for those facing systemic obstacles. Her dedication perfectly mirrors the core values of MusiCares: building support networks that uplift music professionals and allow communities to flourish.”
The MusiCares Person of the Year gala is scheduled for January 30.
