Marcello Hernández Responds to Dax Shepard’s Suggestion That He Date Sabrina Carpenter

Speculation regarding a potential romance between Saturday Night Live standout Marcello Hernández and pop icon Sabrina Carpenter has been swirling since his viral cameo as “Domingo” during her Los Angeles tour stop. Now, at the prompting of Dax Shepard, the comedian is finally setting the record straight.
During Monday’s episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, Shepard pointedly asked Hernández if there was any romantic truth to the fan “shipping.” The duo’s onscreen chemistry became a major talking point in late 2024 when Carpenter playfully “arrested” Hernández—in full Domingo attire—during a recurring segment of her Short n’ Sweet Tour.
Shepard jokingly pushed the issue, suggesting that if he were 28, he would be doing everything in his power to marry the “Espresso” singer. Hernández, however, quickly dispelled the rumors, revealing that his heart is already spoken for.
“I’m actually in a relationship,” Hernández clarified. “I’m dating a Dominican girl who is an architect. She’s incredible—a Yale graduate. But Sabrina is awesome; she’s incredibly funny, cool, and just a great person.”
When asked to define his bond with Carpenter, Hernández kept it simple, describing her as a close friend. He praised her professional attitude and sense of humor, noting that the Girl Meets World alum is always “down to clown” and eager to collaborate on comedic bits.
The creative partnership between the two began in October 2024, following the debut of the “Domingo” sketch on an SNL episode hosted by Ariana Grande. The sketch famously parodied Carpenter’s chart-topping hit “Espresso,” leading to Hernández’s eventual surprise appearance on stage with her. Since then, the pair has reunited for multiple “Domingo” segments, including during the SNL50 special and Carpenter’s own hosting debut.
