The surprising reveal of the Man of Honor expansion for Mafia: The Old Country has sparked significant curiosity among the community. To shed light on the project, Hangar 13’s game director, Alex Cox, and creative director, Josh Zammit, recently offered some clarity.
Pricing and Content Duration
This DLC carries a standalone price of $10—exactly 20% of the base game’s $50 retail cost. It is important to note that access requires the base game; even those who purchased the Deluxe Edition must buy the expansion separately.
Narratively, the content slots in between Chapters 5 and 6, introducing two additional chapters. These can be integrated directly into your playthrough or tackled as standalone missions. Given that a standard chapter spans roughly 40 minutes, you can expect Ennio Salieri’s narrative arc to last between 90 and 120 minutes. You should anticipate a similar time commitment to explore the new features added to the Free Ride mode.
Whether this content justifies the cost is debatable; savvy players may prefer to hold out for a bundled Complete Edition.
Behind the Development
Interestingly, this expansion wasn’t part of the studio’s initial roadmap. The concept only took shape in late September, following the undeniable success of the prequel and the positive reception it garnered six weeks post-launch.
The development team cited the portrayal of a younger, less seasoned version of a legendary character as their primary creative hurdle. We are seeing a Salieri 25 years his junior—a man still living in Italy who is only just contemplating his future in America. At this stage, he is a mentor figure to Cesare and an inspiration to Enzo, yet he lacks the iconic accent and the weary authority that defined him in The City of Lost Heaven and the Definitive Edition.
A Shift in Casting
Because of this temporal shift, the developers opted not to use Glenn Taranto, the veteran actor familiar to the fanbase. While the trailer features Taranto’s voice and the in-game model remains a faithful recreation of his iconic look, the character required a fresh approach.
To capture this younger persona, the role has been entrusted to 36-year-old Andrew Russell, who provided both the voice acting and the full motion-capture performance for the younger Don.
