Lizzo is prepared to face the courtroom should it prove necessary. Amid the ongoing legal dispute with her former backup dancers—who filed a lawsuit in 2023 alleging a toxic work environment and sexual harassment, claims the singer vehemently denies—Lizzo spoke to Gayle King to explain her unwavering refusal to reach a settlement.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings this past Monday (May 4), Lizzo acknowledged that settling might be the path of least resistance to end the litigation, but she has no intention of pursuing that route. “Most people would [settle],” she stated to King. “I think it is an easy way out, but I am contesting this case because I know those allegations are not true.”

“I am looking forward to the day this is dismissed,” she remarked, emphasizing that she views the lawsuit with the utmost gravity “because of what I represent to others.”

“The truth will surface,” Lizzo maintained. “That is precisely why I am not intimidated. The reality is far less sensational than the media headlines suggest.”

In the lawsuit—which the Grammy winner’s legal team has labeled a “fabricated sob story”—the dancers accused the singer of pressuring them to engage in inappropriate behavior at an Amsterdam club and alleged instances of racial and religious discrimination. A judge dismissed claims regarding weight-shaming in December, prompting Lizzo to state on Instagram, “This allegation has haunted me since it surfaced… I intend to fight every single claim until the truth is established.”

“There was zero evidence that I terminated them due to weight gain, simply because it never occurred,” she added at the time. “Their termination was not about body size; it was because they recorded me without my permission and shared that footage with former staff members. I have never fired an employee for their weight. I have consistently championed and supported people of all body types, sharing my platform with them.”

As the remainder of the case proceeds, the artist is preparing for the release of her new album, Bitch, on June 5.

When asked how she maintains her composure amidst such intense scrutiny, she told King, “I know my music has integrity, and I know my heart is in the right place.”

“With that knowledge, I have nothing to fear,” she concluded.
