The self-proclaimed “Big Mama” is officially embracing her moniker in a whole new way. On Friday (March 20), Latto stunned fans by announcing she is expecting her first child. The reveal coincided with the unveiling of her upcoming album’s cover art, a striking visual featuring the rapper baring her baby bump while cradling a small cheetah cub.
The album, fittingly titled Big Mama, is scheduled for a May 29 arrival. While she hasn’t disclosed the specific due date for her little one, Latto expressed her gratitude in a brief but poignant Instagram caption, writing, “Thank you God.”
The hip-hop community immediately showered the “Big Energy” star with affection. “Awwww so happy for you pretty girl,” Doechii wrote in the comments, while SZA added, “GORGEOUS!!! Congratulations.” Other industry peers, including Flo Milli, Monaleo, and JT, also joined the chorus of well-wishers.
Following the initial announcement, the Atlanta-based artist shared a snippet of the music video for the album’s lead single, “Business & Personal (Intro).” The clip features intimate footage of Latto building a nursery crib and curating a scrapbook that includes a positive pregnancy test. In one sentimental moment, the camera lingers on her stomach as the tattooed hand of her partner, 21 Savage, rests gently on the bump. “Super cute, congrats,” Cardi B commented on the heartwarming footage.
This pregnancy news arrives roughly six months after Latto finally went public with her relationship with 21 Savage. During a September conversation with TMZ, she notably referred to the rapper as her “husband,” ending years of fan speculation about their romance. While this will be Latto’s first child, 21 Savage is already a father to three children from a previous relationship.
Latto had been subtly preparing her audience for the news. A day prior to the full reveal, she posted a teaser video showing her walking toward a cheetah cub to offer it a bottle of milk. “Before you run the game, you gotta take baby steps to go the distance,” she narrated in the clip. “Ever since I was a little girl, I always dreamed of having my own. Big Mama. But this time, the stakes are way bigger. Now, it’s on me to deliver.”
The upcoming project follows a string of commercial successes for the rapper. Her 2024 release, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200, maintaining the momentum established by her earlier efforts, 777 and her debut, Queen Of Da Souf.
