Following the monumental success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios has officially pulled back the curtain on its next grand venture. Titled simply Divinity, the new project marks a homecoming for the developer to its long-standing original franchise. While the reveal at The Game Awards 2025 left fans hungry for details, a recent interview with Bloomberg has finally confirmed that the studio is sticking to its tactical roots: Divinity will be a turn-based RPG.

Swen Vincke, Larian’s founder and creative director, quelled any speculation that the team might pivot to a different genre. Instead, he described the project as the studio operating “unleashed.” According to Vincke, this title represents an evolution of everything the team has mastered over the decades, promising to elevate their signature gameplay mechanics to “the next level.” This ambitious outlook aligns with comments from Geoff Keighley, who teased during the awards ceremony that this is Larian’s most expansive undertaking to date.

For those new to the developer’s history, the Divinity universe has been Larian’s cornerstone since Divine Divinity debuted in 2002. It includes the critically acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin series, with the second installment having just received a surprise launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2. While Baldur’s Gate 3 propelled the studio into the global spotlight, it utilized the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property owned by Wizards of the Coast. Vincke had previously indicated that Larian was ready to move on from the Forgotten Realms to focus on its own proprietary worlds.

Though a definitive release window remains elusive, Vincke noted that Larian intends to follow its proven development roadmap by launching in Early Access prior to the full 1.0 release. This iterative process was vital in refining both Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 through player feedback.
