The actress who portrayed Mary Jane in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy has outlined how the next chapter might unfold.
Kirsten Dunst has reignited conversation about a possible continuation of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. In an appearance on The Supes Show, the actress who played Mary Jane Watson revealed she has an idea for a fourth installment should she and Tobey Maguire ever return to their roles.
She described a story that follows Peter and Mary Jane as a more mature couple — one that has grown into parenthood. The suggestion was raised by fellow guest Channing Tatum, who observed that adding a child would raise the emotional stakes. Dunst called the premise “cool,” saying that revisiting the characters years later with fresh life experience would be a fitting development for their arc.
The notion of a fourth film starring Tobey Maguire is not new. His surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) renewed fan speculation about returning to Raimi’s universe.
Interest was amplified by recent comments from screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, who co-wrote The Batman with Robert Pattinson. Tomlin hinted he’s “trying” to move the project forward and has previously described Spider-Man 4 as a story about a hero juggling the responsibilities of being both a husband and a father — an idea similar to Dunst’s.
Whether Marvel or Sony Pictures will ultimately greenlight a fourth film featuring Maguire and Dunst remains unknown, but enthusiasm for a continuation has persisted for years.
