While most fathers provide support in the delivery room through coaching or hand-holding, Ye (formerly Kanye West) opted for a more rhythmic approach. During the birth of his firstborn, North West, in June 2013, the rapper took on the role of delivery room DJ.

In a recent appearance on her sister’s podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, Kim Kardashian reminisced about the theatrical circumstances surrounding North’s arrival. She revealed that Ye curated a specific playlist for the labor, culminating in the birth of their daughter to the operatic strains of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

“She possessed a strong sense of self from the very beginning,” Kim shared during the Wednesday (Jan. 21) episode. “Being born to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’… Kourtney and I revisit that memory constantly. Kanye was essentially DJing, and he timed it so that specific song played just as she made her entrance.”

The SKIMS founder admitted that the memory still evokes strong feelings. “It’s just so perfectly her, isn’t it? We always end up in tears laughing because it’s such a unique, quirky detail. To this day, hearing that song makes me incredibly emotional.”

The 1975 Queen classic, which reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and holds RIAA Diamond certification, seems a fittingly grand introduction for North, who is now following her father’s artistic lead into the world of music production.

During the interview, Khloé Kardashian observed that North’s burgeoning musical talents have acted as a catalyst for a healthier co-parenting relationship between the former couple. “You and Ye have truly found common ground through North’s production work,” Khloé noted. “It seems like you’ve reached a much more positive space because of that shared passion.”

Kim agreed, highlighting her commitment to family harmony. “At the end of the day, we are a family regardless of the circumstances,” she explained. “While music and production aren’t necessarily my areas of expertise, I recognize that it’s a vital bonding experience for her and her father.”

She further emphasized the necessity of collaboration when it comes to their daughter’s career path. “We have to maintain open lines of communication regarding how North navigates those opportunities. Respecting his perspective on our children’s lives is a priority for me.”

Following North’s birth in 2013, Kim and Ye wed in 2014. After several years of marriage, Kim filed for divorce in 2021, with the settlement finalized in November 2022. The pair continue to co-parent their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
