Kena: Scars Of Kosmora Delayed To 2027
Initially unveiled back in February as the direct follow-up to 2021’s acclaimed Kena: Scars of Kosmora initially targeted a late 2026 release window. However, as the autumn season arrived without substantial updates, doubts began to surface. Developer Ember Lab has now officially confirmed that the highly anticipated title will be postponed to next year.
In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Ember Lab shared an update with the community: “Ever since our reveal trailer in February, our team has been fully dedicated to bringing Kena: Scars of Kosmora across the finish line. It has been genuinely thrilling to witness the incredible passion and excitement from our fans, and we are eager to share the next chapter of Kena’s journey.”
The studio added: “At the same time, our goal is to deliver an exceptional experience that significantly surpasses the scale and quality of our 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits. Achieving this vision requires a little extra time. Shifting our launch into 2027 ensures we have the necessary room to truly polish this vastly expanded adventure.”
Alongside the delay, Ember Lab offered fresh insights into the narrative and gameplay mechanics of Scars of Kosmora. Set years after the conclusion of Bridge of Spirits, a more mature Kena journeys to the remote island of Kosmora in search of a remedy for a life-threatening affliction. When her traditional spirit guide staff shatters, she is forced to adapt, mastering a forgotten local form of spirit guiding that unlocks potent alchemy-driven elemental abilities. Beyond saving herself, she must liberate Kosmora from a creeping, insidious corruption.
“The ancient Spirit Guides of Kosmora forged a distinct tradition centered around four fundamental elements and sacred Alchemystic Temples,” Ember Lab explains. “Historically, four interconnected civilizations flourished here, each anchored by a guiding element that sustained its society—until a catastrophic event wiped one of them out.”
Describing the setting as an expansive, multi-region open world that would be arduous to traverse exclusively on foot, the developers introduced a major quality-of-life addition: a giant, rideable wolf companion. “This majestic ancient spirit functions not only as a swift mount, but actively assists Kena during combat—both mounted and on foot—while also helping to solve intricate Alchemystic puzzles,” the studio notes.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora is currently scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2027. In the meantime, players looking to revisit where it all began can check out our original review of Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
