Jennifer Lopez is challenging conventional wisdom regarding heartbreak, viewing the end of a relationship not as a personal defeat, but as a gateway to personal evolution.

During a candid conversation on the Subway Takes series this past Tuesday, the superstar suggested that instead of mourning, we should celebrate the conclusion of relationships. “Breakups shouldn’t be seen as failures,” she explained. “I genuinely believe they serve as a launchpad for your next, better version. We ought to host parties when we break up—you’ve made a definitive choice, and often, that’s the healthiest path for everyone involved.”

Reflecting on her own history, the multi-hyphenate star revealed that she has experienced both sides of the coin. However, she views the person left behind—the one who experiences the heartbreak—as the ultimate victor. “If you are the one enduring the heartbreak, you’re the winner,” she asserted. “Those who go through life repeatedly breaking hearts are the ones truly missing out on vital growth. I’ve lived on both sides of that dynamic, and I’ve learned that the most profound emotional and psychological breakthroughs come from the ache of a broken heart, whether in romance or in one’s professional life.”

Lopez has navigated numerous high-profile relationships throughout her illustrious career. Most recently, she and Ben Affleck finalized their separation in 2024, following a high-profile reunion that began in 2021. Her personal history also includes marriages to Marc Anthony—with whom she shares twins Max and Emme—Cris Judd, and Ojani Noa, as well as an engagement to Alex Rodriguez that concluded in 2021.

Beyond her personal life, the Bronx-born icon remains incredibly active in the music industry. Her latest dance-pop collaboration with Brazilian DJ Alok, “Everything’s Fine,” was released on June 26, following her early-2024 team-up with David Guetta on “Save Me Tonight.”
