“Our goal was to portray IVE exactly as we are, stripped of any artifice or exaggeration,” Liz shares with Billboard Korea. This commitment to authenticity serves as the cornerstone of REVIVE+, the group’s highly anticipated second full-length album.
The latest release from Starship Entertainment’s powerhouse sextet presents a refined artistic perspective. It balances massive, chart-topping group anthems with a sophisticated suite of solo tracks designed to showcase each member’s unique vocal character and creative range. This dual approach reinforces IVE’s signature cohesion while simultaneously redefining the group’s identity as a collective of distinct, formidable artists.
The momentum for this era is already undeniable. Their Western-influenced pre-release single, “BANG BANG,” climbed to No. 63 on the Billboard Global 200 and secured a top-three spot on the Billboard Korea Hot 100. Following the high-octane launch of their latest anthem, “BLACKHOLE,” the members—ANYUJIN, GAEUL, REI, JANGWONYOUNG, LIZ, and LEESEO—sat down to discuss their artistic evolution and the creative philosophy behind their new sound.
This full-length album marks your first in nearly three years. Throughout the creative process and the current promotional cycle, when did you first recognize your own growth as artists?
ANYUJIN: During the preparation for REVIVE+, we engaged in much deeper discussions than ever before. It reminded me of our debut days, but with a new level of maturity. We now share a unified vision for IVE’s trajectory, which allows us to execute our ideas with much greater precision.
GAEUL: I noticed a significant shift while preparing for our world tour. I often reflect in my journals, and looking back at my notes from earlier tours, I realized that the areas where I once felt hesitant have become my strengths. I understand my own stage presence much better now.
REI: I feel a newfound sense of boldness. I’m no longer afraid to experiment with different performance styles. I’ve learned that if you approach every challenge with total commitment, growth becomes an inevitable byproduct.
JANGWONYOUNG: I’ve always been self-encouraging, but this album felt different. During our production meetings with Seo Hyun-joo, I realized our collective ideas were much more sophisticated. We weren’t just picking songs; we were crafting a specific message. The clarity of our intent made the entire process feel incredibly fluid.
LIZ: While the group has grown as a unit, working on my solo track was a transformative experience. It pushed me to find a internal strength I hadn’t fully tapped into before. The excitement of sharing a personal project far outweighed any nerves.
LEESEO: Stepping into my 20s this year has brought a sense of groundedness. People around me have noted a new maturity in my performance, and I feel it too. I’m moving forward with a confidence that I didn’t have at debut, and that positivity radiates through everything I do.

REVIVE+ signals a significant sonic pivot for the group. Which track best embodies this evolution, and what does it suggest about IVE’s future?
ANYUJIN: “BANG BANG” is the definitive track for this shift. Since our inception, we’ve prioritized versatility. Under the guidance of our producer, we explored various styles during song camps, and we all felt that “BANG BANG” represented the perfect bridge to our next chapter. It’s a sound we haven’t touched before, proving that our musical boundaries are constantly expanding.
GAEUL: For me, “BLACKHOLE” is the mission statement for our future. It’s an anthem that declares our group’s distinct color while pushing toward new horizons. It’s the quintessential IVE sound, modernized.
Solo tracks are a major component of this record’s architecture. How did you approach defining your individual identities within the context of the group?
ANYUJIN: We wanted to demonstrate the sheer breadth of talent within the group. My track, “Force,” blends 80s and 90s pop with contemporary hip-hop. I wanted something that felt both nostalgic and trendy.
GAEUL: I was immediately drawn to the ethereal quality of “Odd.” I wanted the performance to evoke the feeling of moonlight—dreamy, atmospheric, and visually striking.
REI: For my first solo venture, I wanted the track to be unmistakably “me.” I was heavily involved in the songwriting and composition, incorporating Japanese lyrics and playful melodies to create something witty and charming.
JANGWONYOUNG: Having written lyrics for the group previously, my solo track was an opportunity to deliver a purely personal manifesto. It’s built on the theme of self-sovereignty. I experimented with new vocal textures to convey a more powerful, commanding energy.
LIZ: I’ve always wanted to explore a refreshing, band-driven sound. “Unreal” allowed me to use bold, expansive vocals that matched the free-spirited energy of the music. It’s exactly the vibe I envisioned for my solo debut.
LEESEO: I wanted to lean into my recognizable vocal tone while challenging myself with more aggressive rap sequences. It’s a track that feels distinct from our group work but still authentically mine. The experience was incredibly rewarding.
As you navigate a global career, how do you ensure your themes resonate across different languages and cultures without losing their essence?
LIZ: Clarity is our priority. We don’t try to overcomplicate our message. By describing IVE as we truly are, the sincerity tends to translate naturally across borders.
REI: We focus on universal human emotions. Even when we speak from a collective “we” perspective, the themes of hope, confidence, and energy are things anyone can relate to. Music is the ultimate bridge that bypasses linguistic barriers.
What should the global audience understand about IVE right now, and what’s on the horizon?
JANGWONYOUNG: We are so grateful to share our true thoughts through this new album. Beyond the studio, our focus is now on the “SHOW WHAT I AM” world tour. We’ve been working tirelessly to ensure these performances are unforgettable for our DIVEs.
LEESEO: REVIVE+ is a labor of love. We hope the audience feels the diversity of the music we’ve crafted. Expect even more varied styles as we continue this journey—please stay tuned for the fan concerts and the global stages ahead!
