Ariana Grande announced on Monday (Oct. 19) that Coco, her dog of more than 17 years, has died.

“sweetest, most amazing and most beautiful coco … i am so proud of you. thank you for your love, and for blessing this planet with your physical presence for over seventeen wonderful years,” she wrote at the start of her Instagram post, which included numerous photos of herself and Coco over the years. “you make everywhere you go a more beautiful place.”

She ended the tribute with these words: “i will miss you every day and hold you in my heart always. i love you so, sweet girl.”

The images include several of Grande snuggling with Coco, one of the dog celebrating her 17th birthday with a bone-shaped cake and one of Coco as a puppy. A video shows the dog contemplating a “morning leap” from one step to the patio. The final image is a black-and-white photo of Coco’s paws with a white rose.

Several of the three-time Grammy winner’s friends left condolences in the comments.

“Oh my love. What a gift you were to one another. 17 years. And I love that you said how proud you were of her,” TV host Ross Mathews wrote. “I so get it. I’m sending you every ounce of my love.”

“I’m sorry for your loss,” singer Leon Thomas wrote. “Coco was the best.”

“sweet sweet coco,” wrote Ilya Salmanzadeh, a producer and songwriter who has worked with Grande on multiple songs, including “Petal,” which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August.

Grande has 10 Hot 100 No. 1 hits to date and has spoken for years about her love of dogs. “Dogs are the most harmless, sweetest babes in the world,” she told Billboard in 2015. “They show nothing but unconditional love, so they deserve that in return.”

Grande is currently taking a break from public-facing work after she wrapped her Eternal Sunshine Tour in early September. Billboard confirmed in September that she will still do press for her upcoming movie, Focker-in-Law, in which she stars alongside Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. The film opens in theaters Nov. 25.
