The B-52s will receive the 2,861st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 a.m. PT. The group had a smash hit with “Love Shack” in 1989.

SiriusXM radio personality Richard Blade, who received his own star in 2024, will emcee the ceremony. The Go-Go’s, who received their star in 2011, and musician, actor and comedian Fred Armisen are set to speak. The event will be streamed live at www.walkoffame.com.

The star is located at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of Amoeba Music.

The B-52s reached their commercial peak with the 1989 album Cosmic Thing, which climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 65 weeks. The album produced the consecutive singles “Love Shack” and “Roam.” Each song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy nomination for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal. The follow-up album, Good Stuff, reached No. 16 on the Billboard 200 and received a Grammy nomination for best alternative music album.

The B-52s formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976. The original lineup was Fred Schneider (vocals, percussion), Kate Pierson (vocals, keyboards, synthesizer bass), Cindy Wilson (vocals, percussion), Ricky Wilson (guitar, vocals) and Keith Strickland (drums, guitar, keyboards, vocals). Ricky Wilson, Cindy’s brother, died of an AIDS-related illness in 1985, and Strickland then permanently switched from drums to lead guitar. The band has also added various auxiliary members for albums and live performances.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome the B-52s to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said in a statement. “Honoring The B-52s with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a celebration of their unforgettable music, fearless spirit, and the nostalgia they’ve created for generations of fans. Their unique sound and energy have truly become part of Hollywood’s musical history.”

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce administers the Walk of Fame for the City of Los Angeles and has hosted star ceremonies for decades. Millions of people have visited the landmark since 1960.
