Internet Pins Yet Another Half-Life 3 Announcement Date — Researcher Spots Anomaly in Valve’s Event Schedule

Fans remain eager for the return of Valve’s franchise.

Recently the Half-Life community sparked fresh speculation about an impending announcement for a new game. This time the conversation was prompted by a discovery from a user known as sameseksure.

The list of scheduled events on Steam is quite full, and the researcher was drawn to a “gap” — an unusual break in the calendar between November 18 and December 8.

sameseksure suggests that Half-Life 3 or a new Valve hardware device could be announced during that interval.

The upcoming quiet stretch, he argues, would be an ideal window for Valve to unveil a new product. He even speculates the reveal could happen as early as November 18.

He bases this on the observation that the top banner is reserved to promote sales and events, so developers typically avoid making major announcements during active sales or other promotions.

Valve uses the top banner on the Steam store homepage to advertise sales, events, or new products like games and hardware. Anything featured on Steam’s front page receives enormous exposure. They placed Half-Life: Alyx on the front page immediately after its 2019 announcement, and they did the same for the Valve Index when it was revealed. During sales and events (Summer Sale, Next Fest, etc.), Steam keeps the top banner focused on those promotions for the entire duration. For that reason, they’re unlikely to make major announcements at the same time as big Steam events, since such timing would overshadow their own sales.
