Indie developer wittily responds to gamers who dislike playing as women, borrowing a solution from Resident Evil 2
The prospect of playing as a female protagonist didn’t sit well with everyone..
A segment of the gaming community voiced their dissatisfaction to the creator of the cozy title Honcho. Until recently, it was understood that players would be limited to a female character.
The developer took this feedback to heart and devised a highly imaginative solution. Despite working with a shoestring budget, he found an answer inspired by a classic bonus feature from the Resident Evil franchise.
He has introduced the option to play as “Mr. Tofu”—a sentient block of bean curd that obscures the character model (with a toggle to hide the hands as well):
This isn’t a joke; he has genuinely opted to use the “Tofu” model as a stand-in for a male character:
