Important: Regarding MODs and Version 1.0!

Palworld Modding Update

At Pocketpair, we sincerely appreciate the creativity and dedication our community has poured into modding Palworld. We are excited to see the innovative mods that will emerge following the 1.0 release.

However, if you are a returning player, please be aware that legacy mod files lingering on your system could potentially interfere with the game’s performance.

The upcoming 1.0 update introduces significant architectural changes to Palworld. If you have outdated mods—particularly those installed around 2024—still residing in your game directory, you may encounter:

  • Unexpected game crashes during startup or gameplay.
  • Corruption of save files or failure to load progress.
  • Soft-locked quests or broken event triggers.

Crucial Notice: Simply disabling or toggling off mods is insufficient. Even if a mod appears “inactive,” remnants and loaders within your game folder can still trigger conflicts. You must manually purge these files before updating. If you have ever modded your game, ensure all associated files are completely removed.

Recommended Preparation Before Updating

1. Safeguard Your Save Data
Always create a manual backup of your save files before applying any major updates.

2. Perform a Clean Sweep of Mod Files (Mandatory)
Do not rely on mod management tools to uninstall content, as they often leave behind residual files. You must manually delete or relocate any custom folders or files within your installation directory. For specific instructions on cleaning your files, please refer to our official modding guidelines.

3. Verify Game Integrity
Once files are removed, perform a verification through Steam:
Steam Library → Right-click “Palworld” → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.

4. Test the Clean Build
Verify that the game launches and runs smoothly in its vanilla state before adding any mods back. If you use Steam Workshop, ensure you have unsubscribed from all items, though note that this does not automatically delete files from your directory—manual removal is still required.

A Note on Save Data Compatibility

If your save files contain modded dependencies (such as custom items or Pals), removing those mods may lead to save instability or prevent the file from loading entirely. Please prioritize your backups.

Reintroducing Mods

We advise waiting until mod creators have confirmed compatibility with version 1.0 before reinstalling any additions. When you do, reintroduce them one by one to isolate potential conflicts. Please keep in mind that our support team cannot assist with issues arising from modified game files.

Thank you for your continued passion and support for Palworld.
