“Important Checkpoint”: Bungie Plans Closed Marathon Test by End of October

The shooter had been absent from the public eye for an extended period.

Bungie has announced a new closed technical test for its upcoming shooter, Marathon. The playtest will run from October 22 to October 27, and registration is already open for interested players.

This marks the first substantial update on the game since its last emergency delay nearly four months ago. According to the developers, the playtest will evaluate a range of enhancements implemented since the alpha. Highlights include three new maps, five character shell variants, a proximity chat feature, reworked combat pacing, a solo-queue option, richer environmental storytelling, and numerous additional refinements.

Participants in the test are bound by a non-disclosure agreement and therefore cannot share their impressions. The studio has, however, pledged to publish a public progress update on Marathon in the coming months to keep the community informed.
