ETS2 Iberia gameplay preview: Algeciras to Malaga

SCS Software published this Euro Truck Simulator 2: Iberia gameplay preview on January 27, 2021, before the map expansion was released. The uninterrupted drive starts at the container terminal in the Port of Algeciras and heads east toward Malaga, giving players an early look at the southern Spanish road network and at the lighting system being prepared for ETS2 update 1.40.

The journey leaves the industrial port through its access roads, joins the coastal motorway and continues across Andalusia. It is useful as a route-focused preview rather than a cinematic trailer: road signs, junction layouts, service areas, Mediterranean vegetation and the changing terrain can be followed in normal driving conditions. Algeciras and Malaga are both important points on the expansion’s southern road network, so the video also shows how a working port connects to the wider freight map.

The footage was recorded from a work-in-progress build. SCS explicitly warned that the map, assets and visuals were still being adjusted, so individual details in the preview should not be treated as a frame-perfect guide to the final DLC. What it does establish is the intended scale of the drive and the mix of dense port infrastructure, multi-lane roads and more open sections between the two cities.

The preview was also one of the early public demonstrations of the revised lighting introduced with ETS2 1.40. That update changed the way daylight, shadows and atmospheric conditions were calculated across the game. The Iberian landscape made the difference especially visible: bright road surfaces, deep shadows around structures and gradual changes in haze had to remain readable without losing the sense of a hot southern climate.

Update 1.40 arrived before the Iberia expansion, while the DLC itself was released on April 8, 2021. Iberia requires the Euro Truck Simulator 2 base game. Players comparing the preview with the released route should therefore expect the final map and the completed 1.40 lighting rather than every unfinished detail seen in this recording.
