How to Unlock Glamour in FFXIV
As you progress through Final Fantasy 14, you will unlock the ability to customize your character’s appearance without sacrificing the superior attributes of your high-level equipment. This system is known as glamour.
In this FFXIV guide, we will walk you through how to unlock the glamour system and demonstrate how to refine your aesthetic using various methods, including the glamour dresser and automated outfit plates.
Update (May 13): This guide has been revised to reflect the latest changes to the glamour system implemented in patch 7.4.
Unlocking the glamour system in FFXIV
Glamouring allows you to utilize glamour prisms to overlay the visual appearance of one piece of gear onto another. Following the update in patch 7.4, you are now free to project armor appearances across different jobs; for example, you can finally dress your tank in the elegant robes of a White Mage.
To gain access to this feature, you must reach at least level 15 and progress through the main scenario quests until you can travel to Western Thanalan. Once in Vesper Bay, seek out an NPC named Swyrgeim, characterized by her vibrant, unconventional attire, to accept the quest titled “If I Had a Glamour.”
Upon completion, the “Cast Glamour” action will be added to the General tab within your Actions & Traits menu.
Manually applying glamour to specific items
If you prefer to update items individually, you can use the Cast Glamour skill. You can trigger this directly from your Actions & Traits menu, or by right-clicking an item in your inventory or character window and selecting the “Cast Glamour” option. Keep in mind that applying a glamour manually consumes one glamour prism per piece of gear.
Using the glamour dresser and armoire for outfits
You can locate glamour dressers and armoires inside the inn rooms of major city-states, such as Ul’dah, Limsa Lominsa, Kugane, and the Crystarium, as well as within your Grand Company barracks.
Note that depositing an item into the dresser requires one glamour prism.
- The glamour dresser acts as your primary storage for cosmetic items, boasting a capacity of up to 800 slots.
- The armoire is specifically designed to house event-related gear and certain other special items, helping you conserve space in your primary dresser.
By utilizing the dresser, you can create glamour plates—saved outfits that allow you to update your entire appearance instantly with a single click, completely free of charge after the initial setup.

Once you have configured your plates at a dresser, you can apply them via your character menu. Please note that these plates can only be applied while you are within the safe confines of a city or a sanctuary.

For added convenience, you can link specific glamour plates to your equipment sets. This feature ensures that even if different jobs share identical gear, they will automatically adopt their unique, assigned look the moment you swap your gear set in a town or sanctuary.

To configure this, simply open your Gear Set list, select the desired set, and choose the “Link to Glamour Plate” option.
With these tools at your disposal, you are ready to become the most fashionable Warrior of Light. Don’t forget to explore the dye system as well to truly perfect your look.
