Retrieving the Shard of Serenity for Klastor in Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is arguably the most puzzling objective in the entire campaign. You will need to track down a well-concealed scout, uncover the artifact’s hiding spot, and then overcome a final, frustrating hurdle: figuring out how to actually pick the item up once you’ve reached it.
Below, we break down exactly how to initiate the “Missing Knight” quest, where to locate the elusive scout and the Shard, and—most crucially—the specific trick required to successfully claim the Shard of Serenity.
Finding the Shard of Serenity
The quest to “Bring the Shard of Serenity to Klastor” is a pivotal part of the “Missing Knight” storyline. You will encounter this during the “Never-Ending Conflict” campaign mission. Depending on your chosen path, this mission might not appear until you are several steps into your campaign journey.
To begin, locate the scout at the start of the mission by heading into the dark, unexplored terrain west of your spawn point. Bypass the red, grassy area containing the Fire Wand and interact with the yellow question mark icon:
Klastor, the individual guarding the scout, demands the Shard of Serenity as his price. Although the artifact sits just to the southeast, it is barricaded by mountains and dense brush, making a direct approach impossible. You have two primary methods to bypass these obstacles:
First, backtrack east to the purple portal located just north of the Fire Wand. This is the most efficient path.
Alternatively, you can head south of the Shard and converse with the spy, who will reveal a hidden path. Simply click on the Mercury to the right and navigate through the terrain until you reach the Shard’s location.
You have successfully navigated to the artifact, but you’ll likely notice it remains unresponsive when clicked. Here is how to resolve that.
Claiming the Shard of Serenity
When you attempt to interact with the Shard, the game provides a cryptic hint: “Though its nature eludes you, an instinct deep within urges absolute stillness, as if only in perfect quiet can you claim the artifact.”
This is your cue: you must end your turn while standing on any tile directly adjacent to the artifact. By remaining stationary for one full day, the “quiet” requirement is met. On your next turn, you will be able to pick up the Shard of Serenity and return it to Klastor to finish the “Missing Knight” quest.
