In Palworld, coal is a vital resource for crafting carbon fiber and refined ingots, both of which are essential for manufacturing advanced weaponry and high-tier spheres.

Once you reach level 53, you gain the ability to unlock a dedicated coal mining site for your base in exchange for five Ancient Technology points. Constructing this site is a significant investment, requiring 70 stone, 30 Paldium fragments, 10 ancient civilization parts, and 100 coal. Consequently, you will need to manually harvest your initial supply from the wild. After placing this structure, your mining-specialized Pals can provide you with an automated, endless supply of coal.

Where to find coal in Palworld

The most accessible area for early-to-mid-game coal harvesting is the Twilight Dunes desert, located toward the center of the world map:

Look for large, dark-colored rocks scattered across the desert floor. These nodes are noticeably darker than standard stone and feature a duller, more uniform texture compared to iron ore deposits.

While any pickaxe will suffice, using a metal pickaxe (crafted with 15 stone, 20 wood, and 15 ingots) will significantly reduce the time spent gathering. Because teleportation fast-travel points are sparse in the desert, we recommend establishing a secondary Palbox near these farming zones to streamline your transport logistics.

While Mount Obsidian also contains coal, the harsh environment makes it a risky location for sustained farming compared to the alternatives below.

Top coal farming zones

We recommend focusing your efforts on the Twilight Dunes, Verdant Brook, and Sand Dunes. These areas provide the safest environment for establishing an outpost.

Twilight Dunes Coal Deposits

The desert contains several clusters where five coal nodes appear in close proximity. Always ensure you are equipped with heat-resistant armor for the day and cold-resistant gear for the night.

The first deposit is located at (-157, -92). Use caution when farming here, as the area is often patrolled by the Anubis Alpha Pal.

A second, safer spot is located at (-97, -120). Situated atop a high rock formation, this node cluster is naturally shielded from most base raid incursions.

For a more concentrated harvest, look behind the large Anubis statue at (-124, -84), where you can find six coal nodes clustered together.

Verdant Brook Coal Deposits

Navigating the Verdant Brook is best done with a flying mount, as the terrain is rugged and steep.

The most efficient spot is found at (189, -40). This location is a treasure trove, featuring both coal and eight nearby iron ore nodes—perfect for a dual-resource farming base.

A secondary location exists at (290, -20). While it lacks the dense ore concentration of the first spot, it still features seven iron ore nodes a short distance to the east, making it a viable alternative.

Sand Dunes Coal Deposits

To maximize your output in the Sand Dunes, head to the following locations:

• Western Ridge: West of the Deep Sand Dunes statue at (436, 528), you will find six coal nodes near the cliff edge.
• Mountain Peak: Southeast of the Frozen Dune Cape statue at (257, 543), look near the trees to find a massive cluster of nine nodes.
• Southwest Plains: Located at (438, 431), southwest of the Deep Sand Dunes statue, this spot offers another set of six nodes.

Coal is a cornerstone of the mid-to-late game economy. By combining 2 coal and 2 ore in an Improved Furnace, you can create 1 refined ingot. These ingots are required for powerful gear, including:

• Rifle Ammo & Shotgun Shells

• Refined Metal Spear
• Double-Barreled Shotgun
