The history of the authors of re3 and reVC seems to be ended badly… It got to the point of absurdity – traces of projects found in the files of the failed reissue… Nevertheless, we had the first team of enthusiasts who did not back down – defense lawyers prepared counter arguments against Take-Two civil action…
Protection is based on the following facts:
- there are no sources in the projects that would belong to R * or Take-2;
- in the event of any violations, this was a forced measure to improve performance – support Gta 3 and GTA: Vice City was completed many years ago;
- the use of re3 and reVC required the purchase of licensed copies of Troika and Vice City;
- the inability to cause any damage – both games have now been removed from digital stores, and no fees were charged for the use of projects;
- no ban on the release of other mods using a similar “reverse engineering” method, for example, the fan-made multiplayer Multi Theft Auto.
We really hope that the last argument will not attract the attention of the copyright holder to the MTA. However, all points seem more than convincing, and we believe that justice will prevail, and the victory of modders will be able to create a precedent.
