Housemarque on Whether Saros Will Follow Returnal to PC

Saros PlayStation 5 Exclusive Action Game Preview

When Returnal, the haunting sci-fi roguelite from Housemarque, first arrived in 2021, it served as a premier showcase for the PlayStation 5’s capabilities. In the years following, Sony began a strategic expansion to bring its prestigious first-party library to the PC audience, eventually porting Returnal in 2023. This trend continued with heavy hitters like God of War, God of War Ragnarök, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, alongside Bungie’s new extraction shooter, Marathon. However, a recent investigative report from Bloomberg suggests a pivot in Sony’s strategy, indicating that PlayStation may be doubling down on console exclusivity once more. Specifically, the report notes that highly anticipated titles like Ghost of Yōtei and Saros are currently not slated for PC releases.

Housemarque's Saros remains a PS5 focus

Seeking clarity on this shift, I spoke with Saros director Gregory Louden and asked point-blank if there were any internal plans to bring the game to Windows. As a veteran of a PlayStation first-party studio, Louden responded with a polished PR restraint: “Currently, our focus is entirely on Saros and its upcoming debut on the PlayStation 5.”

While that response leaves the door slightly ajar for the distant future, it clearly prioritizes the console experience for the immediate launch window. If current industry trends and reports hold true, Housemarque’s latest project may remain tethered to the PS5 for quite some time.
