Hideo Kojima Updates Status of Xbox Horror Game OD
Actor motion capture and other production work for OD will continue through the end of 2026, even though no release window has been announced. The schedule has been impacted by SAG-AFTRA strikes and Hideo Kojima’s work on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Hideo Kojima has provided a reminder about the development of OD, an experimental horror game for Xbox that Kojima Productions continues to create alongside Microsoft.
New promotional material has drawn fresh attention to the project. The developers have not yet announced even an approximate release window. According to available data, actor motion capture and the creation of other game elements will continue through the end of 2026. The schedule was affected by SAG-AFTRA strikes and Kojima’s work on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
OD will star Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. Facial capture technology will be used to record their performances, which is expected to play an important role in creating the psychological horror game.

The game was first discussed in 2022 when project materials under the title Overdose leaked online. The official presentation of OD took place at The Game Awards 2023. At that time, Kojima also announced a collaboration with Jordan Peele and stated that Microsoft was the only publisher willing to support such an unusual concept utilizing cloud technology.
